Kingston Golf Club was formed in 1933 to provide more competitive golf within Liberton Golf Club for younger members. Of course over its 75 years those younger members have matured and we now have a varied mix of ages and abilities within our membership.

Throughout our history, all of Liberton’s best players have been members as our Champion’s and Captain’s Boards in the clubhouse, bear out. There is a wide selection of tournaments and matches laid on for members during the year and we also lay on social events, such as our annual dinner which has been superbly catered for by Liberton’s Chef.

In Kingston we see the social side of the game as very important. At the start of the season Kingston Fixture Cards are available.

New Year

Captains Blog :

Welcome all Kingston members to the new 2012 season. I am sending this welcome from Auckland, New Zealand where I am currently visiting my son. I am looking forward to playing Formosa Golf Club  at Beachlands, Auckland this afternoon. Temperature is around 72F with a chance of a shower!

Back home the new fixture card will soon be available and in the meantime all new events will be shown in the events page of this web site. I would encourage all members to enter as many competitions as you can.

I have some disappointing news for members and that is that Bryan Cuthbert has regretfully had to stand down from Kingston Council.  I should like to take this opportunity of thanking Bryan for all the work he has done for Kingston over the past years. This leaves us without a Secretary or Vice Captain. The Kingston Council now comprises myself as Captain, Scott Dickson and Jimmy Milligan as Council members and Ricky Hay as Match Secretary. Bob Bee as most of you will know is taking a rest from treasurer duties owing to his health. The Club need a succession plan and you are all encouraged to consider taking a more active role to support your Council. If you would like to help drop me an email at jamesross@kingstongolfclub.co.uk – I look forward to hearing from you.

In the meantime enjoy your golf and I look forward to seeing you all at the Dinner and Prizegiving on Friday 16 March 2012.

Kingston Annual Dinner and Prizegiving 2011

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Annual Dinner and Prizegiving on Friday 19th March 2011. Prizes were awarded to those members who had won the various competitions over the season and their excellent efforts were richly applauded by those present. ( Copies are now available on the notice Board in the clubhouse) There was a fantastic Andy Hutchison meal, some very entertaining and amusing speeches and a tipple or two of  a variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages –  served by some very understanding and experienced bar staff.

Your captain, myself , didn’t go on too long, Douglas Evans was very funny and original and the evening wound up with some very enjoyable banter and conversation amongst the members and guests present.

Special thanks must go my Council Members for the work they did to ensure that the evening happened. Thanks must also go to Liberton Golf Club for allowing us the use of their facilities and to Gordon O’Malley for printing tickets for the evening.

You will be pleased to note that we also managed to make  a small profit on the night, thanks mainly due to the generosity of Robert Jack in donating a three ball at Gullane 1 and Alan Tait, our guest speaker, who donated  a fourball at Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club

Thank you again for your support

Robert Jack beats Craig Watson in ‘A’
David Kelly beats Billy Love in ‘B’

The A and B Championship finals were played on Sunday 4th October 2009 over 36 holes at Liberton Golf Club. Robert Jack and Craig Watson contested the A Championship and Davie Kelly and Billy Love played for the B Championship.
The A Championship match was a game to savour. Robert, the Junior Convenor of Liberton when Craig joined as a junior and was now pitted against the young pretender in a final. Craig, attired in pink, was playing against a legend.
Robert began with a blisterring opening nine of 30 – with birdies and pars galore. Craig, playing well , was hanging on to his coat tails. The morning round ended with Robert being 8 up.
In the afternoon, Craig started stronger, winning the first two holes and Robert settled with a birdie on the third. Robert won the match on the 12th – 7 and 6.
In the B Championship – last year’s champion Davie Kelly played Billy Love. In the morning round, Bryan Cuthbert – referee, reported that it was ding dong affair, with a high standard of play There was never more than one hole in it.
After lunch Davie took the lead and eventually won 8 and 6.
My congratulations to all four players for providing a thrilling finale to the Championships and for playing the game with great sportsmanship.

Robert and Davie will be entered by Kingston GC into next year’s Lothian Golf Association’s Champion of Champions and the Handicap Matchplay Championship respectively and will receive their KingstonTrophy at the Kingston Annual Dinner and Prizegiving which will be held on Friday 26th March 2010.
